Unlock Summer Fun with your Library Card: Free Beach Passes, Museum Access, and Birdwatching Kits Available at South Orange Public Library

[SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – July 17, 2025] – Your South Orange Public Library (SOPL) card is your all-access pass to summer adventure. Don’t let summer pass you by without enjoying all that New Jersey has to offer. SOPL is thrilled to offer free passes to top NJ beaches and world-class museums both in NJ and NY, plus access to birdwatching kits—just in time for sunny days, family outings, and outdoor exploration.

Hit the Shore — For Free!

SOPL cardholders can check out beach passes to some of the Jersey Shore’s most loved beaches. These three destinations have been consistently ranked in the top 20 beaches in the state. While you’re picking up your pass, don’t forget to grab a book to read or download an audio book for the ride. Beach passes can be checked out for a maximum of 3 days.

● Long Branch Beach – Enjoy the family-friendly boardwalk, wide stretches of sandy beaches, and oceanfront dining options. The pass admits up to two adults and one teen

(62+ and 12 and under are free).

● Sandy Hook Beach – Explore scenic trails, historic sites, and peaceful beaches. Part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, known for its natural beauty, clean shoreline, and

views of the New York City skyline. You’ll enjoy free parking for one car with the SOPL pass.

● Asbury Park Beach – Live music, arts, great eats, and beach vibes all in one spot. Hit the iconic boardwalk and check out the shops and food stands. This destination will take you from day to night, with entertainment options for the whole family. Two adults and two teens will enjoy free admission (12 and under are free).

Explore Culture & Art

If you’re not up for a trip to the shore, consider visiting a world-class museum instead, the perfect way to beat the summer heat or stay dry on a rainy day. ● The Frick Collection – Masterpieces of Western art in a historic setting, just a short train ride away. The SOPL pass will admit two adults and includes a 20% discount in the shop

and 10% discount in the café.

● Manhattan Children’s Museum – An unforgettable hands-on, imaginative experience for little ones (and their grown-ups!). Free admission for 4 guests of any age plus a 15%

store discount.

● Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center – A home run for sports lovers and history buffs alike, right here in NJ. Includes admission for two adults and all children under 18.

● Brooklyn Botanic Garden – Wander through 52 acres of lush, curated nature. The pass will admit 2 adults and children under 17. You’ll also enjoy a 10% discount at the garden

shop and café.

Take Flight with Nature

In partnership with the South Orange Environmental Commission, SOPL offers free birdwatching kits for adult cardholders (ages 17+ in good standing). Grab one and head to one of our beautiful local parks or see what you can discover in your own backyard. These kits are loaned for up to two weeks with an option to renew. Sharing photos from your birdwatching adventures, on the SOPL website, is also encouraged.

● KOWA YFII binoculars for crisp, clear bird spotting

● Sibley Birds East: A Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America

“Whether you’re headed down the shore, exploring world-class museums, or spotting birds in your backyard, or at a botanical garden, SOPL has something for everyone—all at no cost. We encourage all cardholders to take advantage of these complimentary services, we can’t wait to hear all about your adventures!” said Library Director, Jill Faherty.
