Meet the Team Behind South Orange Downtown
South Orange Downtown—officially known as the South Orange Village Center Alliance (SOVCA)—is the nonprofit organization that manages our town’s Special Improvement District. Established in 1991 as Main Street South Orange, our mission has always been to champion a vibrant, thriving downtown for all who live, work, and visit here.
Led by an Executive Director and a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors—including property owners, business owners, residents, and local stakeholders—we operate as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. While we are separate from South Orange Village government, we work in close partnership with elected officials and municipal staff to strengthen our downtown together.
Our Mission
At South Orange Downtown, we work every day to:
Support local businesses and attract new ones to create a diverse and dynamic retail environment
Provide guidance to entrepreneurs and startups
Host community events that enrich our downtown and drive foot traffic
Enhance the public experience by promoting cleanliness, safety, and walkability
Collaborate on new development efforts that honor our architectural character and historic charm
Our goal is simple: to build a downtown that serves everyone—residents, business owners, and visitors alike.
Board Meetings
South Orange Downtown’s Board of Directors meets monthly on the third Wednesday at 8:30 AM via Zoom except for August. These meetings are open to the public—we welcome your voice and participation.
