South Orange Public Library Celebrates Library Card Sign-up Month During September
[SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – August 13, 2025] – This September, the South Orange Public Library (SOPL) joins libraries across the nation to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up
Month, a time to remind our community that a library card is the most valuable card in your wallet — and it’s not only empowering, but it’s free! For students, it can be the key to academic success. For adults, it’s a gateway to lifelong learning. For everyone, it’s a great way to stay connected to your community. Libraries are for everyone—no matter your age, background, or goals. Whether you’re diving into a new hobby, searching for your next great read, brushing up on tech skills, or helping your child succeed in school, it all starts with a library card. One Card, Endless Possibilities.
With a library card, SOPL patrons can:
● Borrow Books, eBooks, Audiobooks, and Magazines – Access thousands of publications and titles, from bestsellers to classics, both in print and online
● Stream Movies – Watch over 30,000 films for free, including hundreds for children
● Access Digital Resources – Explore language learning tools, small business resources, online courses, research databases, and job search help
● Enjoy Programs for All Ages – Story times, book clubs, author talks, craft workshops, technology classes, and more
● Borrow Beyond Books – Take home birdwatching kits, museum, beach passes, tablets and mobile hotspots
● Connect to the BCCLS Network – Use your card to borrow from 78 member libraries across northern New Jersey “Signing up for a library card is the first step to unlocking all that the SOPL offers,” said Jill Faherty, SOPL Director. “We are not just about books. The library supports connection,
community, and creativity.”
