Lunar Fest NJ Returns to Maplewood for Its Seventh Year, Celebrating Culture, Community, and the Arrival of Spring
MAPLEWOOD, N.J. – On Sunday, March 1, 2026, Lunar Fest NJ returns to The Woodland (60 Woodland
Road) for its 7th annual celebration of the Lunar New Year, marking the arrival of spring and the beginning
of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. Organized by SOMA Cross Cultural Works, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization, the festival will celebrate the Year of the Fire Horse.
In lunisolar tradition, the Horse symbolizes energy, independence, strength, and perseverance. The Fire
Horse, in particular, represents a time of bold change, forward momentum, and new
opportunities—making it a fitting theme for a community celebration rooted in connection, creativity, and
growth.
Running from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., this free, family-friendly festival will feature cultural performances,
interactive children’s activities, local AAPI vendors, and festive foods. Lunar Fest NJ highlights traditions from
across the Asian diaspora and invites the wider community to come together in celebration and learning.
Since its founding in 2019, Lunar Fest NJ has grown into a beloved annual tradition in the SOMA community,
drawing hundreds of attendees each year and fostering cross-cultural understanding through art, performance,
and shared experience.
The 2026 festival is made possible through the generous support of community partners and sponsors,
including SOMA Cross Cultural Works, Maplewood Arts & Recreation, and Seton Hall University.

This vibrant and multifaceted event pays homage to the rich and diverse heritage of Black culture, achievements, and contributions. Serving as a powerful platform to showcase students’ various artistic expressions. This celebration engages music, dance, visual arts, literature, and more.

Absolutely no skills needed! Each couple will sit across from eachother and paint a portrait of the other. We'll provide canvases, paint and everything you need to let the creativity flow.

Clay by Indigo Road Studio: Valentines Day Try It Classes
Clay by Indigo Road Studio (10 Vose Ave) is offering a Valentines Day Try it class on February 14th with 2 sessions, session 1 from 4-6PM and session 2 from 7-9PM
Spend the evening giving wheel-throwing a spin! Come on your own, with a friend, a family member or fun date - this is an open, friendly environment. If students decide to keep any pots created, the studio will trim, glaze and fire for a $15 fee per pot. Pots must be picked up within 60 days of the scheduled class otherwise the pot will be donated. Minimum Age: 16 years old. This 2 hour workshop introduces beginners to wheel throwing and gives you an opportunity to see what it feels like to throw on the pottery wheel and understand the process of wheel throwing.
We cannot offer refunds or credits on class cancellations as spots are limited. Missed classes cannot be transferred to a future session. We keep class sizes small and rely on filling each seat within a class. If there are any questions regarding this please contact help@claybyindigo.com
How To Prepare For Your Class:
-Wear clothes that you do not mind getting dirty or clay on. The studio environment is filled with clay, glaze and other materials that can get on clothes/accessories.
