This week featuring: DAVID EASTON BAND
David Easton is on the move, at least when it comes to his music. He has traveled around the US performing everything from pop/rock to jazz standards. You name it, he can do it. A singer, songwriter and keyboard player, his talent and versatility are just a part of his family legacy. His father was a composer/conductor/arranger/pianist who studied under Paul Hindemith at Yale and wrote music for 20th Century Fox and NBC. His great uncle Louis Silvers, was an Oscar winning musician "One Night of Love" and the genius behind the score for the groundbreaking first “talking” movie “The Jazz Singer.” with Al Jolson (1927) and the composer of such classic songs as "April Showers".
New York and New Jersey music fans recognize David. He has played at The Bitter End, Downtime, The Triad, Don’t Tell Mama, Kavehaz and Birdland, The Knitting Factory, Hat City Kitchen, Maplewoodstock, Rails Steakhouse, Ryland Inn, Stonehouse, Liberty House, and Gladstone Tavern just to name a few. His originality sprang from many influences that range from The Beatles and Billy Joel to jazz and classical music.
Among David’s accomplishments are working as the keyboard player in the off-broadway smash hit "A Jew Grows In Brooklyn." which ran in NYC from 2006-2007, and being commissioned to write and perform an original song called “Change The Way You See Everything” as a companion to the best-selling book of the same name. In 2008, his band won 2nd place in an original music contest judged by Trish Frisbie and Eugene Foley. In 2010, they made it to the local finals of the Hard Rock Cafe Ambassadors of Rock Battle of The Bands.
He has a BA in Music/Philosophy from St. Lawrence University, studied classical piano with Lee Dell'Anno at Kent School, jazz with the late great Jaki Byard (Manhattan School of Music) and done workshops with jazz legends Billy Taylor and Barry Harris. Torn between his passion to compose and perform he was awarded first place in the Hutchinson piano competition two years in a row.
David has his own band that plays mostly in the New York/Tri-State area showcasing David’s original pop/rock music and covers. Whether you are looking for a funky chill band to rock an audience or for a jazz combo to play at a private party, or a solo "Piano man" David Easton is your guy.
Here are some of the members who play regularly with David Easton Band:
Drums - Poet, John Oakes, Steve Plesnarski
Bass - Jon Ru, Glenn Korzin
Guitar - Udi Levy , Rob Betrus,
Sax - Dan Perez

One day’s notice is not a problem for a band that knows over 100 tunes. Gary Shippy, drummer, is a co-founder of Maplewoodstock.
Laredo has some originals, but love to play covers from Dylan to Dawes and Croce to Carlile. They are often joined by guests from the local music scene and stock a few percussion instruments so young children can join the band at outdoor performances.

Watershed Literary Event w/ Nicole Cooley & Gabriella D’Italia
Watershed Literary Events will kick off its 2026 season with a reading featuring poet Nicole Cooley and memoirist Gabriella D’Italia. The event takes place on Sunday, March 22, at 3 pm in the Skate House, located at the intersection of Mead Street and Meadowbrook Lane in South Orange. Watershed is sponsored by the South Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs and the Meadowland Park Conservancy. All readings are free and open to the public.
Nicole Cooley is the author of seven poetry collections, including most recently Mother Water Ash (LSU Press, 2024) and Trash: Poems, forthcoming from Alice James Books in 2027. Her work has appeared in journals such as Poetry, Field, Ploughshares, Poetry Northwest, The Paris Review, PEN America, The Missouri Review, and The Nation. Cooley’s work is fueled by her obsessions, her love for “research rabbit holes, dictionaries, places like clock museums where I can lose myself in another world.” Her upcoming book, Trash, focuses on grief, existential anxiety, and the things we throw away. Cooley grew up in New Orleans, where she attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts for high school. She currently teaches in the MFA Program in Creative Writing and Literary Translation at Queens College, City University of New York, and lives in Glen Ridge with her husband and daughters.
Gabriella D’Italia is an interdisciplinary, award-winning fine artist, writer, and Master Gardener. Her work explores home, nature, female identity, and the contributions of these environments to our human wisdom and sustenance. Her recently published memoir, Getting Dressed In The Dark: An Artist's Way Home (Unsolicited Press, 2025) was called “strikingly intimate and beautifully layered” by Emmy-winning director Lana Wilson, who praises it for exploring “how the act of making art is inseparable from the act of living.” D’Italia is best known for her feminist fiber works and multimedia collage; she has exhibited internationally at biennials, salons, embassies, and galleries. A Morristown native, she received her BA through St. John’s College Great Books Program before moving to New England, where she worked for two decades in costume design and quilting. She currently lives in Mt. Tabor, New Jersey.
Now in its eighth year of programming, Watershed Literary Events promotes the work of a talented and diverse array of writers with a New Jersey connection. For more information, contact arts@southorange.org.
