The South Orange Village Center Alliance (SOVCA) today announced a new name - South Orange Downtown - and a major rebrand for the non-profit organization dedicated to making the downtown business district a vibrant place to live, work and enjoy.

Our non-profit organization that manages South Orange Downtown has an open board position for a resident of South Orange! If you’re looking for a volunteer opportunity, our board offers a great opportunity to help support our downtown business district through events, promotions and community building.

Cinema Lab, the new operators of The Village Cinemas at SOPAC, will reopen the five screen movie theatre on July 22, 2021 with preview pricing for all showtimes for a limited time to welcome movie-goers back to the big screen. The cinema is immediately open for private screening rentals.

South Orange Village announces summer hours including extended evening hours on Mondays nights. Beginning the first week of June and running through Labor Day South Orange Village will be open during the evening on Mondays until 7pm.

SOVCA is dedicated to revitalizing downtown South Orange by creating art throughout the town and to making art central to the daily life of the community. The murals will be painted, can be any style, and should represent “Harmony.” The selected mural will serve as a community celebration for years to come.

Deborah Engel will assume the position from Mark Murphy, who has served as chair since June 2019.

The Maplewood Village Alliance, South Orange Village Center, and Springfield Avenue Partnership announced a new social media contest, Show your Stuff SOMA, as part of their joint Saturdays in May campaign. The contest asks residents to post photos or videos of their local purchases for chances to win gift cards to SOMA businesses totaling over $500 in value.

In support of the local businesses in Maplewood and South Orange, Maplewood Village Alliance, South Orange Village Center, and Springfield Avenue Partnership have started a month-long campaign—Saturdays in May—where every Saturday is a Small Business Saturday.
