SODT OPEN BOARD POSITION - Commercial Property Owners

South Orange Downtown (SODT) is seeking a dedicated individual to join our talented Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for representing the organization, its mission, accomplishments and goals.

We have 1 board position open for a Commercial Property Owner. Candidates must own commercial property in our downtown within the boundaries of the Special Improvement District (SID).

ABOUT SODT

The goal of South Orange Downtown is to strengthen the district for all our stakeholders. Our work includes supporting existing businesses and recruiting new ones to improve our retail mix, guiding entrepreneurs, producing events that complement existing stores and services, making the Village Center cleaner, safer, and more pedestrian-friendly, and helping our governing body manage new development while preserving the attractive architectural legacy of the downtown area.

South Orange Downtown works in tandem with all other stakeholders to improve the downtown by implementing the Main Street Four-Point Approach, which includes Design, Promotion, Organization, and Economic Development. The Board is responsible for supporting the programs administered by the Executive Director; monitoring the progress of those programs and operations; and ensuring that the programs advance the mission and efficiently and effectively utilize the resources of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Attend monthly meetings which are held the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 8:30 a.m. (currently via zoom).

2. Review minutes and other Board materials prior to attending the meetings.

3. Actively participate on at least one standing committee. Currently, there are three standing committees: (1) Activation (marketing & events) (2) Beautification & placemaking and (3) fundraising.

4. Be available for consultation and willing to use professional skills and expertise to enhance the operation and strategic direction of the organization.

5.Represent SODT in the community; connect people in personal and professional networks to SODT’s mission.

6. Attend SODT's annual meeting & special events.

QUALIFICATIONS

Owner Director- We are seeking talented individuals with enthusiasm, passion and commitment to the enhancement and strengthening of the core downtown shopping district in South Orange. Candidates must own real estate within the special improvement district (SID) or principals or officers of a corporation or other business entity owning real estate within the SID.
