Join the SODT Board!

South Orange Downtown (SODT) is actively seeking a committed individual to join our esteemed Board of Directors. The Board plays a crucial role in representing the organization and advancing its mission, achievements, and objectives.

To be eligible, applicants must be a business owner, property owner, or resident within the South Orange Downtown district.

The term for this board position will commence on February 1, 2026.

We encourage interested parties to attend our board meetings (3rd Wednesday of every month at 8:30am via Zoom) to get a feel for the dynamics and responsibilities of the board. We welcome passionate individuals who want to contribute their expertise to further support the vibrant community of South Orange to apply for these positions.

ABOUT SODT

South Orange Downtown is a 501(c)3 non-profit Special Improvement District (SID). The mission of South Orange Downtown is to enhance the district's vitality for all stakeholders. Our efforts encompass a variety of initiatives, including bolstering existing businesses and attracting new ones to diversify our retail landscape, providing guidance and support to entrepreneurs, hosting events that complement the existing array of stores and services, fostering a cleaner, safer, and more pedestrian-friendly downtown, and collaborating with local authorities to manage new developments while preserving the downtown area's appealing architectural heritage.

South Orange Downtown works with all other stakeholders to improve the downtown by implementing the Main Street Four-Point Approach, which includes Design, Promotion, Organization, and Economic Development.

The Board is tasked with supporting the initiatives overseen by the Executive Director, monitoring their progress and effectiveness and ensuring that they align with the organization's mission while utilizing resources efficiently and effectively.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regularly attend monthly meetings, scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month at 8:30 a.m. (currently conducted via Zoom).

  • Thoroughly review meeting minutes and other relevant Board materials before attending.

  • Actively engage in at least one standing committee, choosing from our current offerings: (1) Activation (focused on marketing & events), (2) Beautification & Placemaking, and (3) Fundraising.

  • Share your expertise and skills to provide guidance and enhance the organization's operations and strategic direction.

  • Serve as an ambassador for SODT within the community, fostering connections and promoting the organization's mission in both personal and professional networks.

  • Attend SODT's annual meeting as well as any special events organized by the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At-Large Director- Candidates must be a South Orange resident or a property owner or a business owner operating within the boundaries of the SID district.
